My concentration was really on getting to university and becoming a doctor. My parents let me know that school marks were important. Achievement was something which came by hard work.

Roger Bannister was a real go-getter. He was always running around, trying to break records. One day, he decided he was going to be the first person to run a mile in under four minutes. He was so determined, he trained hard and ran even harder! On May 6th, 1954, he finally achieved his goal, becoming the first person to break the four-minute barrier.
