About the author

Roy Acuff was an American country music singer, songwriter and fiddler who was one of the most influential figures in country music history. Born in Maynardville, Tennessee in 1903, Acuff developed a deep love of music early in life, learning to play the fiddle at the age of 8. He was an early star of the Grand Ole Opry and was also one of the first country music performers to appear on network television. His unique style of singing and fiddling, combined with his showmanship, helped make him one of the most popular performers of the 1940s and 1950s. Acuff's songs, such as "The Wabash Cannonball" and "The Great Speckled Bird," have become country music classics. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1962 and received the National Medal of Arts in 1991. He passed away in 1992 at the age of 89.
