So they didn’t let anybody else off. I can’t live like this, I’m finished. Auschwitz was easy.
Meaning of the quote
This quote is from a Polish soldier named Witold Pilecki, who experienced the horrors of the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. He is saying that the camp was so terrible, he couldn't continue living under those conditions. Even though he survived Auschwitz, he felt that life outside the camp was just as difficult and unbearable. He was so overwhelmed by the experiences he had that he thought Auschwitz itself was easier to endure than the life he had to face afterward.
About Witold Pilecki
Witold Pilecki was a Polish World War II hero who volunteered to be captured by the Nazis and sent to Auschwitz in order to gather intelligence and organize resistance within the camp. He later escaped, fought in the Warsaw Uprising, and was executed by the communist authorities after the war for his anti-communist activities.
